Connect your assistant to open-bp

Connect ChatGPT, Claude or another assistant to your projects. MCP gives it access to open-bp’s calculations and actions with the permissions you choose.

The address to add to your assistant

Copy this complete address, then follow your assistant’s guide. With OAuth, you sign in to open-bp in the browser and choose permissions; there is no key to copy.

https://open-bp.com/api/mcp

The data retrieved is sent to your AI provider within your conversation. Check its privacy rules before using client data. Project permissions, quotas and calculations remain those of your open-bp account.

Add open-bp to ChatGPT

  1. Open ChatGPT with your chosen account and workspace, then open the Plugins page. Open ChatGPT plugins
  2. Click ‘+’, then ‘Add custom MCP server’. Some interfaces still use the terms apps or connectors.
  3. Name the connection ‘open-bp’, add a description, then paste the address above into the server field under Connection.
  4. Configure OAuth authentication. Read the connection warning, then create the plugin. Sign in to open-bp when the browser asks and choose the permissions you need.
  5. Review the discovered tools, install the plugin, then start a conversation. Type @ and select open-bp; try the first example below.

If the option to add a server is missing, look for Developer mode under Settings → Security and login. Your plan and workspace policy may restrict this feature; ask your administrator if needed.

Add open-bp to Claude

  1. In Claude, open Customize → Connectors, then Add → Custom → Web. Depending on the interface, the button may be called ‘Add custom connector’.
  2. Enter ‘open-bp’ and the complete server address above, then click Continue.
  3. Check the detected OAuth authentication and choose ‘Sign in now’. For the OAuth client, use Claude’s published identity or automatic registration. open-bp supports both methods.
  4. Click Add, sign in to open-bp and grant the required permissions. In a conversation, open ‘+’ → Connectors and enable open-bp.
  5. Try a read-only request. For tools that save, share or bill, keep approval required for every action in the connector’s permissions.

In a Team or Enterprise organization, an owner may need to add the connector before you can sign in with your own account.

Add open-bp to another MCP client

  1. Open your client’s MCP server configuration. Add a remote server using Streamable HTTP transport, then paste the complete address above.
  2. If OAuth is available, choose it, sign in to open-bp and grant the permissions you need. The client must support OAuth discovery and PKCE.
  3. If the client only accepts a Bearer token, create a key in My account → open-bp in your AI. Enter a name and select permissions, then copy the key shown only once. Manage my MCP connections
  4. Place the key in the client’s private token or HTTP header field. Use Authorization as the header name and Bearer followed by a space and your key as its value. Never paste the key into a conversation.
  5. Refresh tool discovery, enable the server in the conversation and try reading your projects.
If your client only accepts a local command (stdio)

The open-bp repository includes the scripts/mcp-stdio.mjs bridge. With Node.js and the repository’s dependencies installed, configure your client to run this file using its absolute path.

node /PATH_TO_OPEN_BP/scripts/mcp-stdio.mjs

Replace PATH_TO_OPEN_BP with the repository folder. In the process’s private environment, set OPEN_BP_MCP_URL to the address above and OPEN_BP_MCP_TOKEN to your key. Do not add the key to command arguments or a shared file.

Usage examples

Copy a request into your assistant after enabling open-bp. Choose a project before changing its data. The proposal requests below specify that your approval is required before saving.

Find a project

Required access: Read.

Using open-bp, list my active projects. Ask which one to open if several match; do not change anything.

Understand your cash balance

Required access: Read.

In the project I chose, identify the month with the lowest cash balance. Explain the amount, causes and assumptions to check, without changing the data.

Compare two hiring dates

Required access: Read and edit.

For this project, prepare a scenario where hiring is delayed by three months. Compare the lowest cash balance and profit with the initial forecast. Show me the differences before saving anything.

Document an assumption

Required access: Read and edit.

I will provide a rent quote for this project. Check the period and whether the amount includes VAT, ask for missing information, then propose the expense and its source. Wait for my approval before saving.

Write the project presentation

Required access: Read and edit.

Propose a presentation for this project using the saved information. Distinguish facts from assumptions and ask for missing details. Do not invent market research or commercial evidence; show me the text before saving it.

Export a business plan

Required access: Read, depending on your plan.

Export the chosen project’s latest saved version as a PDF. State its version and any assumptions still missing. Do not describe the business plan as validated by an expert.

Choose permissions and revoke access

  • Read access lets you view accessible projects, recalculate, compare and export according to your plan. Start with this permission for analysis.
  • Edit access also lets you save data, comment and manage permitted sharing. Grant it only if you want the assistant to perform these actions.
  • Billing, account and connection management provide separate permissions. They are not required to analyze a forecast. Administration remains restricted to verified incwo accounts.
  • In an external AI client, approval depends on that client’s settings. A write tool may save immediately when called: ask for a proposal followed by confirmation, and check the client’s permissions.
  • You can remove an OAuth authorization or revoke a key in My account → open-bp in your AI. Access remains tied to the open-bp session that created it; if it expires or is signed out, reconnect the assistant.

Calculations continue to run in open-bp. The external assistant uses its own model; tools that explicitly request open-bp’s AI still require consent and count toward its AI quota. A Stripe link does not prove payment, and payments are completed in the browser.

Manage my MCP connections

Troubleshoot a connection problem

The server cannot be found
Check the complete address, HTTPS availability and access from the internet. A localhost or 127.0.0.1 address does not refer to your computer from a remote service.
The connection has expired
Sign in to open-bp again, then restart the OAuth connection in your assistant. With a manual key, create a new key and replace the old one in the client.
A project or tool is missing
Check the open-bp account in use, accepted sharing, connection permissions and your subscription. Refresh the client’s tool list; in ChatGPT, use Refresh on the connection, then start a new conversation.
The assistant does not use open-bp
Check that the connector is enabled for this conversation, mention open-bp in your request and start by asking it to list accessible projects.
